Anyone hear anything about the state of their contracts yet? Last I heard they are still in negotiations, but Dorsey's agent doesn't seem too involved, mostly negotiating over the phone. Kind of lame.

none of the top 6 picks are anywhere close to being signed. as far as what i understand, the two top picks agents have yet to have a meaningful discussion with the asshat formally know as carl peterson. more of the same old crap, i'm afraid...

Looks like every other pick has been signed, only the two first round picks left. Sad

Make that only Dorsey left. Well, and the one injured player they won't sign until he's cleared to play.

Looks like all players are happy "campers" now! It's refreshing for the biggest story line out of camp to be about football for a change. I hope for the posts to pick up now that there is some action in WI.

I'm hoping so as well. We've lost a lot of traffic over the off season.

However, a lot of fans will be down now that both our first round picks are injured. >.<

Ya, we have... I am going to be spending more of my own money this season to try and distribute bumper stickers and do some stuff to drive traffic to the site... I am still willing to work with others build a better site too. I have just maxed my ability in building it so far. Bottom line: I am 100% convinced that Herm will field another disastrous season and fans will be looking for an outlet.

My offer still stands on helping sort out the forums if need be. In addition, SMF has some great mods for an arcade and such to give people something to do when they are not posting. For example, check my forums. You have to create an account and make a post before you can access the Arcade:

Hey fellas. You are right. Traffic has dropped to a crawl. Don't worry. If things transpire how I think they will, by week five you will have plenty of posters! An odd thing happened to me this summer. I did not listen to five minutes of K.C. sports talk radio about the Chiefs. In fact, from what little I have listened/heared, they are keeping VERY quiet about this team. The summer sports talk is usually abuzz with lots of callers and tons of talk about the Chiefs. To tell truth, I didn't even remember the first preseason game was on Thursday and missed all but the last three minutes of the game. The sad thing is I wasn't even disappointed in myself for forgetting. Whew. Hey Herm and CP, you hear that? It is the deafening sound of silence from the fans. NO ONE at my work has even been mentioning the Chiefs. That is a first in the 21 years I have worked there. Then I find out that both of their big time, first round picks are injured and didn't make the trip for the game. Again, see my posts about CP's drafting philosophy. I said it when it happened; there is a REASON a supposed No. 1 draft pick DT drops to fifth behind offensive linemen! Add to this the fact that their converted OG>OT is injured as well and...well, we'll see how it all pans out. I know that the two or three guys at work who saw the opening drive said it looked good but I think the team was tired of the nine game streak and came out to "prove" something. The Bears ain't quite what everyone thought they were when they made the SB in a CRUMMY NFC conference a couple of years ago.

TCF. I don't think you are right. I know you are! That is my firm, 100% belief. The guy lost this team last year. Listen to the comments of LJ(no peach in my estimation but those young guys will be listening to him), Tony G, and few others. Any who had questions were quickly fired, ahem...released, in the last off season. They couldn't really do much with Tony or LJ with the contract money wrapped up in them. I wonder how long it will be before golden boy LJ starts in with his shtick this season? I give about two games of not gaining 100 on the ground. I still think the Jared Allen trade will come back to bite them HARD. He WAS the heart and soul of that team. His infectious style of play and the lack of inspiration for the rest of the D will be quite plain if this injury prone DT does not make an almost IMMEDIATE impact. Even bigger is that if Herm's D first mentality washes out, then Brandon Albert had better have the best danged rookie season of any LT in NFL history. I don't care what tripe Herm says in public. He does not believe in aggressive, get the lead and KEEP it offense. He will revert/resort to run, run, throw-raider-ball-style-on-third-and-forever-get-Tony-laid-out-over-the-middle, and punt offense. Bank on it. I don't care what Shemp Gailey says either. He may want to play a more mix it up style of offense but it won't happen. Not with Marty junior on the sidelines. I can't wait to hear the media trot out the old "Herm's teams start slow, just give it time" routine when this team disappears in the rest of the preseason and the first four or five games. Or maybe Herm senses the hostility and impatience of a LOT of fans and will stay aggressive in the pre season and then clam it up in the regular season. Anything to give fans a "well, maybe they can do it. Look at the pre sesaon" attitude to keep interest up. When it becomes patently obvious by game eight that nothing in Herm's limited repertoire has changed even one bit, then the hell raising will start. Usually this about the time he pulls a game or two out of his hat and they go 8-8,9-7 "make" the playoffs and get embarrassed. Oh boy. Here we go. Season 2008 is about to start. For better or worse.

What this is really going to come down to is three things:
     1) Will KC have a standout leader that will drag them kicking and screaming to some W's. I.e. Will Tony, Brody, L.J. step up and lead this team?
     2) Will the O-line have the necessary chemistry to protect Brody? (Yes, I said chemistry, as that is more important than talent in an O-line.) If the revamped O-line doesn't gel, I highly doubt Brody will ever reach his potential while looking over his shoulder. We will injure a great deal of our RBs with weak holes for them to run in.
     3) Will the KC defense have some new standout players and mirror the glory days of the 90's? I have a LOT of question marks on D. Will our 'physical' DBs be able to keep up with the super fast wide outs this league provides? Will Tamba Hali fill Allen's shoes? Will Dorsey end up being nothing but hype? Will Gunther be given the freedom to veer away from the cover 2 and run his own D? Last year we became FAR too predictable with our cover 2 crud.

The answers to those questions are truly what will determine our season. 12 - 4 or 3 and 13?

Question 1; Agree 100%

Question 2; Agree 95% There is still much to learn about Albert's potential.

Question(s) 3; Glory of the 90's? Doubt it with cover 2. DB's versus antelope WR's? Nope/maybe. Tamba>Jared? Not only no but hell no. Dorsey? Whew. Even though he was the "big" pick this year, I still think Albert is the bigger X factor. The entire offense could crumble if he washes out. Dorsey will be a big question till he puts together games that not everyone notices. Ie; O's changing their game plans to run away from him. Only time will tell. Gunny? This one boils me the most. The guy's D's over the years have more than spoken for themselves. I fear his arse kicking style will never mesh with contradictory message from the HC. He also needs the studs and freedom to do it. I suspect Gunny will be a coaching casualty at the end of this season. Too bad. If you look at his first tenure in K.C. and then Jax, he had NOTHING to prove.

Last. 12-4 would be the miracle of miracles. I tend toward the reverse of that but with the NFL as wacky as it has been these last years, who knows? Good post Bod.

Thanks for the compliment Phog. I just hate having so many questions and knowing that we won't have any definitive answers until four weeks into the season. I want to know if I can buy discount Chiefs apparel this spring again. XD

I still can't believe I forgot the Branden Albert part of the equation, you're 100% right on that as well. Though I will say it is nice seeing one of my homegrown Rochester New Yorkers with the Chiefs, he still has a lot to prove.
