This is so depressing, ESPN said that the Chiefs are willing to trade Tony Gonzalez for a 3rd round draft pick.
There is nothing left to say... I hope he does well where ever he goes!
Tony, I thought would be something sacred, a career Chief! I am sure most of the Chiefs want to be traded also.

I'm sure LJ will be next, then derrick johnson, dwayne bowe, any players with discernible talent... like rats from a sinking ship... and i'm only surprised it took this long. herm had a mutiny on his hands in new york, which is why they were willing to let him go for a lower draft pick... and now he has a mutiny in kansas city...

It seems to me that Herm is running out guys who were there before he arrived so if he would ever win (ya like that would happen) he can sit there and take all the credit. FIRE HERM NOW

If it is being shopped this hard, this publicly, then there is likely a deal already in the works. Just guessing. So it goes. ANYONE associated with the record setting offenses of Al Saunders and Dick Vermeil are being purged. Most are already gone. It was just that Tony was such a face of the Chiefs they found it hard to do anything about it. Just remember guys. We don't really need Jared Allen. We don't really need Tony Gonzalez. We didn't really need Tony Richardson one more season. We didn't need Al Saunders as O coordinator or head coach. Think the players don't see the same crap we do? I have said it before, he has lost this team. I think they not only realise something is not quite right with 'the plan', they just flat out get it this guy is a fraud as a head coach. Tony G has been around the league long enough to know what's what. He never breathed a word that could be considered controversial while Dick V was here. I hate to be a wet blanket but I have talked about this before. Tony, you should have known better when these clowns shopped you that big contract extension. I think he was promised lots of things about the offensive scheme for the team. When it didn't appear, he made it plain he was unhappy. We all know what happens to these guys around here don't we? As to LameJ. Good riddance. I was screaming for them to trade him right before the season LAST year. He will never be worth as much again. Yet we take a $46 million dollar gamble on his personality, Herm's incompetence, and Carl's ego. Where does all this stop? Even though I said Tony should have known better(and he should have), he was at least trying to make his hall of fame career a shining moment for the Chefs fans. Now we don't even have that apparently. Agree with Matt. FIRE HERM NOW!

This is what drives me nuts when i here the talking heads on the media talking about how us the fans just need to be patent and see that this is just a rebuilding. And that everyone that "knows football" can see that. That is simpley not the case. we have players that are probley fighting over being the next in line to get out. Its jared allen saying how terrible chiefs managment is. Its Tony now who is begging to get away from this lame plan. The players seem to be agreeing with us. So should we like take over for the experts just a thought FIRE HERM NOW!

I agree, this is getting ridiculous! The only thing that Herm is doing is trading are talented players for draft picks so he can say that he is "rebuilding" our team through the draft. All this does by trading Tony G and larry johnson is provide old hermy another year that we cannot fire him. Since 'he" will have 10 draft picks again this year. however, Carl Hunt needs to realize that Herm is the worst coach in the NFL and get rid of him. By the way, We all know how good herm is at drafting people (horrible).

this is the espn article about tony and to think they are honoring him next week at arrowhead wonder if they will do it if his not part of the team.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Tony Gonzalez, the most productive tight end in NFL history, will be traded to a contender if the Kansas City Chiefs get the right price.
ESPN's Michael Smith first reported the fact Gonzalez was to be shopped Saturday.
A league source confirmed to ESPN that Gonzalez went to Chiefs GM Carl Peterson and inquired about a trade to a contender earlier this week.
Gonzalez
Gonzalez, who holds the NFL tight end record for receptions, touchdown catches and yards receiving, is active in civic and charitable affairs and enjoys great popularity in Kansas City. He has always said he would like to end his career with the Chiefs, who drafted him in the first round out of California in 1997.
But the Chiefs (1-4) are rebuilding from the bottom up and not likely to contend for the Super Bowl any time soon. In spite of all his personal accomplishments, Gonzalez, 32, has never even won a postseason game.
He would like an opportunity to play in a Super Bowl and the rebuilding Chiefs would like to acquire extra draft picks.
The Buffalo Bills, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Green Bay Packers, New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles have been in contact with the Chiefs regarding Gonzalez.
The Giants traded tight end Jeremy Shockey to New Orleans last summer for Nos. 2 and 5 drafts pick in 2009. Shockey's replacement, Kevin Boss, has been a disappointment even though the defending Super Bowl champs are undefeated.

How i am hopeing that nothing happens by the trade deadline and clark wakes up and relizes that Herm is a terrible coach. Bshaw i do disagree I think that Herm can find talent he just does not no how to use them. Or keep them happy. Herm would probley be a good talent scout. He just does not belong on the sideline as a head coach. But sadly tradeing Tony and larry would just give herm more time. The sad part is they wil not get a good pick i mean lets look at it the teams they have had contact with will not be picking high in rounds and lets face it We all no the greatest TE in history is not worth more then a 3rd round pick (sarcasim intended) SO the chiefs will get a late 3rd round pick maybe a 6th or 7th round thrown in. Thats all. and its stupid. FIRE HERM FIRE CARL NOW

he is gonna finish out the season from what i read and he is done. guess its time to get a tg jersey cheap now hopefully the retire his number. would hate to get a tg jersey and have them give his number to sombody else. i got a dante hall jersey before he was traded to the rams and now the jersey belongs to bowe. would hate for the same thing to happen to tg. when he retires from the chiefs they need to retire his number also since you wouldnt trade him at least retire his number.

Tony Gonzalez will soon make his annual postseason trip to Hawaii to play in the Pro Bowl. Upon his return, he should have a better idea about which direction the Chiefs are headed.
By then, the Chiefs will likely have a new general manager and a decision on whether coach Herm Edwards will be retained.
At that point, Gonzalez will decide whether he will again ask for a trade.
“As far as I know, I’ll be a Chief next year,” Gonzalez said. “Depending on what Clark (Hunt) wants to do, if he wants to blow this whole thing up and bring in a new coaching staff and bring in a new coordinator with that and bring in a new quarterback in the draft, that all weighs into whether or not I want to be a Chief next year.
“As far as I’m concerned, as a veteran on this team going into my 13th year next year, the last thing I want to hear is ‘rebuild.’ I’m not into it. If they come in here and they want to blow it all up, I’ll be frustrated and I’ll be a little (ticked) off.
“There are some really good coaches on this staff. I want Herm back, I want (offensive coordinator Chan Gailey) back. I want my position coach, Jon Embree, back. These guys are going to take us in the direction we want to go.”
Gonzalez indicated he would play only one more season, at least if he stays with the Chiefs. In that case, it might benefit the Chiefs to at least listen to trade offers for Gonzalez, though those offers might not be overwhelming given that Gonzalez is nearing the end of his career.
“In reality, it’s just like this year,” he said. “If they don’t want to let me go, they don’t have to let me go and I’d have to deal with it. I’d still come back and play hard. But there’s only one year left in that. If they want to get something for me, that’s when I would say, ‘Why don’t you get something for me?’
“I’m just being honest. I’m just talking candidly here. No matter what happens, I’ll try to make it work for the best. Whatever team I’m on — hopefully it’s this team — we can build something special.”
Even at 32 and while playing for a 2-14 team, Gonzalez had one of his best seasons. That seemed improbable early in the year when the Chiefs continually shuffled their quarterbacks.
His season turned around when Tyler Thigpen took over for good at quarterback. That’s one reason Gonzalez would prefer to see the Chiefs stay with Thigpen, at least if they continue in the spread offensive formation.
“I think Tyler is the guy, especially for this offense,” Gonzalez said. “If they want to keep this offense in place, why would you need to go out there and get another quarterback? He’s perfect for this offense. If you want to go out there and get a dropback quarterback, then maybe you might want to get another quarterback.
“Tyler’s proven himself. He’s come out of nowhere and shown he can be an elite quarterback in this league. People need to keep in mind that it was his first year starting. He came into this season just hoping to be the third-string quarterback and now he’s pressed into the starting spotlight. I think he handled it well.
“If he gets a whole offseason and gets the (practices) and the whole camp and gets his confidence going that he’s going to be the guy, then I think he can be a pretty good quarterback in this league for a long time.”
Gonzalez and outgoing president/general manager Carl Peterson said their goodbyes after the Chiefs returned from Cincinnati Sunday night when they bumped into each other while having dinner at the Capital Grille on the Plaza.
Gonzalez was upset with Peterson for a time after the Chiefs failed to trade Gonzalez in October.
“Our relationship has healed,” Gonzalez said. “We were frustrated but I’m not going to hold a grudge forever. Whatever he does, I’m sure he’ll be successful. Twenty years as a general manager of an NFL team, that’s unheard of, especially nowadays. He should be proud of that. He had some real good football teams.”

Hey Paul. I was going to link this article too but you beat me to it. Now here is where I am going to tick people off but right now, I could care less what Tong G wants. You remember me saying he should have known better when Herm first arrived and blew this team apart. He signed up for more anyway. I said Tony was promised something to keep playing here after season one of Herm's debacles. Then when surprise, surprise, Herms team goes to pot, Tony wants out. Now he says its okay. I think we saw why. Tony was thrown every ball out there the last ten weeks of the season. Well maybe throwing that wildcat or whatever they call that high school offense in there worked for awhile but by week 12-13 of the season, NFL defenses had pretty well figrued it out. The point is, next year it won't be as productive. No where near it probably. So we are back to square one. Will Tony want out again if we lose three or four games in the first half of the season and look stupid doing it? That is a real possibility with this head coach. Whats more is the way I read his article, Tony is now saying the me, me, me line. And hinted he would only play one more year anyway. So we hold a entire team and possible new GM hostage for one player for one year? The more I look at this the more I believe he has lost a good number of players but like Matt says, they can't really say much because Herm's favorites are out there speaking for the entire team and they don't want to be the bad guy. This is an all out blitz by Herm and his faves to keep his job. Basically out there sending veiled warnings to the owner and new GM. Who would come in here that is worth a dang with that sort of stuff floating around the newspapers? Sorry Tony but this coaching staff needs to be blown up, not the entire team. That was Herm's mistake to begin with.
